Fire Emblem Fates: Special Edition (Europe) (En, Fr, De, Es, It) is a tactical role-playing game developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 3DS. It is the fourteenth installment in the Fire Emblem series and the second to be developed for the 3DS. The Japanese title of the game is Fire Emblem Fates: If. The game is divided into two different storylines, Birthright and Conquest, with a third available as downloadable content. The player is able to choose one of the two stories to play and can switch between them at any time. The story follows the player character, a customizable avatar, as they become embroiled in a conflict between two warring nations, Hoshido and Nohr. The player must choose to side with one of the two nations in order to resolve the conflict. The game features a tactical turn-based battle system similar to previous Fire Emblem games, with new features such as the ability to pair up characters to support each other in battle. The Special Edition includes all three versions of the game, Birthright, Conquest, and Revelations, as well as a number of additional items such as an artbook, a double-sided poster, and a three-song soundtrack.
