Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber (Japanese: オウガバトル64 Person of Lordly Caliber) is a real-time strategy role-playing game developed by Quest and released by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64 in 2000. The game is the sequel to the 1995 Super Nintendo Entertainment System game Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen. Set in the fantasy world of Zenobia, the game follows the story of Magnus Gallant, a young knight of the Palatinean Army, as he leads an uprising against an oppressive empire. Players control a group of up to five characters, which can be customized with different classes, equipment, and skills. The game features a turn-based strategic layer in which players can move their characters around the world map to capture enemy territories, recruit new characters, and fight battles. When entering a battle, the game switches to a real-time tactical layer in which players can move their characters around the battlefield and use special abilities and magic spells to defeat the enemy. Ogre Battle 64 was praised for its deep and complex gameplay, its detailed storyline, and its vibrant graphics. It was also praised for its soundtrack, composed by Masaharu Iwata and Hitoshi Sakimoto. The game was a commercial success, selling over 500,000 copies in Japan and over 100,000 copies in North America. It was followed by a sequel, Ogre Battle Gaiden: The Prince of Zenobia, in 2002.
