It was released in North America on August 29, 1997 and in Japan on October 10, 1997. The game is based on the popular BBC television show Top Gear and features a variety of tracks and cars. Players can choose from a variety of cars, including the Ford Escort, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, and Subaru Impreza. The game features two different modes: Championship and Time Trial. In Championship mode, players must complete a series of races to progress, while in Time Trial mode they must complete a single lap as quickly as possible. The game also features a variety of weather conditions, including rain and snow, which can affect the handling of the cars. Top Gear Rally also features a two-player split-screen mode, allowing players to compete against each other. The game received mixed reviews upon its release, with some criticizing its lack of tracks and cars. Despite this, it was praised for its detailed graphics and realistic physics.
