Electroplankton (Japanese: エレクトロプランクトン) is a music video game developed by the Japanese game company, Nintendo, for its Nintendo DS. The game was released in Japan in 2005 and in the United States in 2006. It is a unique interactive music and art experience where players interact with various creatures called “Electroplankton”. The creatures, which look like plankton, respond to the player’s touch and move around the screen. The player can then use these creatures to create music and visuals. The game has 10 different modes, each with its own unique set of Electroplankton and rules. For example, in the Hanenbow mode, the player can create a colorful garden with the Electroplankton, while in the Marine Snow mode, the player can make a musical composition by controlling the plankton.
