Enpitsu de Oku no Hosomichi DS (日本語タイトル：えんぴつで奥の細道DS) is a Nintendo DS game released in Japan in 2008. The game is based on the famous haiku anthology of the same title, written by Japanese poet Matsuo Basho in 1689. Players take on the role of Basho, who must travel the length of the “Narrow Road of the Interior” of Japan, an arduous journey of over 600 miles. Along the way, Basho must write haikus about the people and places he encounters, with the help of the game’s stylus and touchscreen features. Players can also collect items, battle monsters, and solve puzzles in order to progress. The game also includes a tutorial mode to help players learn the basics of haiku composition.
