The beta version was originally developed by Hudson Soft and published by Sega. The game is a remake of the original Golden Axe, which was made by Hudson Soft in 1990. The objective of the game is to save the princess from her tower and defeat the dragon. The game features a new, more open-world design, as well as more interesting enemies and bosses. The beta version also featured new features, such as an action-adventure game world, a player-versus-player mode, and a multiplayer mode. The beta version was later ported to the Sega Saturn and PlayStation.
