The game is set in the years 1933 and 1935, and is a sequel to the game Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and a prequel to the game Indiana Jones and the Crusade. The player controls Indy as he attempts to thwart the evil forces of the evil Shahrazad and her giant snake, the Dragon. Along the way, Indy must outwit Nazis, Arabs, and other enemies in order to save the world from destruction.
