The fifth and final installment of the R-Type series, the game is a side-scrolling action game that takes place in a 3D world. Players control a character called 'The Third Lightning', who uses a variety of weapons to defeat enemies. Along the way, The Third Lightning must avoid obstacles and enemies. The game has a high degree of difficulty, making it a challenging title for those who are not experienced with role-playing games. The Third Lightning is a unique title in the R-Type series, as it is the only game in the series to not feature a main character. Players instead control a number of different characters, each with their own unique abilities. These characters can be used in tandem to form a team, or played independently.
