In the future, a society has developed a technology that allows people to enter the body of another person and control their movements. This society is known as the 'Empire'. One day, a group of rebels try to escape from the Empire and find a new home. They are led by a mysterious figure known as Nier. The game starts with the protagonist, a young man named Revenant, entering Nier's body. He then has to find ways to escape the Empire and return to the people he cares for. Along the way, he must use his skills to defeat enemies and survive in the harsh world of the Empire.
