Pokemon Snap (ポケモンスナップ) is a first-person rail shooter video game developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64 in Japan on March 21, 1999. The game is set in the fictional world of Pokemon and follows the player, a photographer named Todd, as he travels around an island taking pictures of various Pokemon. The goal of the game is to take the best pictures of the Pokemon, which are judged by Professor Oak. The game features 63 different Pokemon, each with its own set of behaviors, and the player must use various tools to get the best pictures possible. The game also features a variety of mini-games, such as the Poke Flute, which can be used to wake up sleeping Pokemon. Pokemon Snap was a critical and commercial success, and is remembered for its innovative use of the Nintendo 64's 3D capabilities. It has been re-released several times, including on the Virtual Console for the Wii and Wii U.
