Super Smash Bros. (Japanese title: ニンテンドー64 オールスター!大乱闘スマッシュブラザーズ, Nintendō Rokuōru Sutā! Dairantō Sumasshu Burazāzu) is a fighting game developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64 console in 1999. It is the first game in the Super Smash Bros. series, and the first game in the series to be released outside of Japan. The game features characters from a variety of Nintendo franchises, including Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, and Kirby. Players can choose from up to 12 characters and battle it out in a variety of stages. The game also features a variety of items and power-ups, as well as a single-player mode, which allows players to battle against computer-controlled opponents. Super Smash Bros. was well-received, and has been credited as one of the most influential fighting games of all time. The game has spawned a series of sequels, and remains a popular title in the fighting game genre.
