Front Mission 1st (Japan: フロントミッションワンス) is a turn-based tactical role-playing game developed and published by Square (now Square Enix) for the Nintendo DS in 1995. This was the first game in the Front Mission series, and the first tactical role-playing game released by Square. The game is set in the fictional world of 2121, where two superpowers, the Oceania Cooperative Union (OCU) and the USN, are locked in a war. Players take control of a military unit known as the Huffman Unit, led by the main protagonist, Darril Huffman. The player must then lead their unit through various missions, engaging in tactical battles with enemy forces. The game features a unique battle system known as the 'Linking System', which allows the player to equip parts to their character's mechs and link them together to form a variety of combinations. In addition, the game also features a variety of weapons and equipment, as well as a deep story with multiple endings. Front Mission 1st is considered to be a classic game in the tactical role-playing genre, and is praised for its innovative battle system, rich storyline, and high replay value.
